California Sexual Harassment Prevention Training: FAQs

Is sexual harassment training required in California?

Yes. Per the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), as amended by SB 1343, an employer is required to train its California-based employees, provided it employs at least five workers anywhere, even if not all of them live or work in California.

How often is sexual harassment training required in California?

Sexual harassment prevention training in California must be repeated every two years.

What’s the training deadline for new hires and supervisors?

Sexual harassment training in California must be provided within six months of hire (for new employees) or promotion (for new supervisors).

What does harassment training in California have to include?

Sexual harassment training in California must cover how to prevent abusive conduct, as well as harassment based on gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation.
